So here are some people who have done a great deal for the Sinhala Catholic faithful. There is enough material in English if we are keen enough to look for. I also make a small attempt to pay tribute to some personel who have done so much for the Church of Sri Lanka specially for us Sinhala Catholics. That indeed is the real happines in life. Thereafter it becomes our spiritual responsibility to invest those treasures our master have given us and pay him back rich devidence. By asking that question we can pray asking God to reveal our talents if we still havent discovered them. The golden question Why am I put on earth? is something we all should ask. Meaning how we should allow God to use every bit of us for his work. This reflection goes mainly with the lyrics of the hymn. It is yet another wonderful musical and vocal masterpiece by Brother Charles. Obe Atha Digu Karala is a relatively modern Sinhala Catholic Hymn by Brother Anton Charles Thomas of Daham Pahana religious organization. I hope this will inspire you to believe more on the love of God by realizing how he kept his promise to man kind. The images are from the statues of the nativity scene which we all have loved so much from our childhood. But the message is in a one flowing story. The verses are from a wide range of books in the Old Testament. As it is said in John 3:16, God loved the world so much that he gave his only son to live as a man and show by example the path to salvation. After man strayed from the path of God and put the original God-Man relationship to dispute, out of his endless compassion and love God promised salvation. The reflection is based on the message of Salvation given to all of mankind by the almighty God. This version is sung by the veteran singer Anjalin Gunathilake and is found on the web site Hela kithunu gee Sinhala Geethika. Its melody and meaning is from the English carol Oh come divine Messiah. Wadinu Dew Masiya patha siti me lo dana is a beautiful Sinhala Catholic Hymn sung mainly as a Christmas carol. Its facinating isnt it the way these psalms address such complicated feelings. A feeling that can be compared to what we feel just after making a confession and returning to our usual life and its challanges. They have just experienced God in a big way and they want more and more of him. They turn to him and pray for prosperity. So they turn again to the same one and only God who just saved. And they find a new challange immediately, returning to a barren land. Now they have just experienced God's saving power in returning from Babylon. When they returned, they found their homes and lands gone to waste after being deserted for centuries. The Psalm is believed to be written in the 6th century B.C by the Israelites after they returned home from captivity in Babylon. This wonderfully sung version is on the album Ahase Mudune by the Archdiocesan Social Communication and Cultural Centre. Saminde oba obe desata (deshayata) setha salasuwo is a beautiful Sinhala Catholic Hymn composed by Rev.Fr.Moses Perera. Therefore as Jesus is readily offering us his hand in friendship, why dont we take it? It infact is our heart's desire. Then we try to fulfill that emptyness with other people. So deep down in our hearts we miss him when we have kept him away from us. It is then that I have understood that no human being can be with us all the time to help us with our lonelyness. There have been times where no one was available. So many times I have tried to call a friend, to go and meet someoneetc. In my life I have spent countless days where I have felt lonely, where I miss someone and where I was bored. He lifts us up to be friends and then he dies for his friends. It is here where he says Greater love has no one than this: to lay down one's life for one's friends (John 15:13). It is where we are elevated as his friends his equals. Our Lord our God offering us his friendship. It is where Lord Jesus adress his diciples as Friends. The reflection is a combination of the meaning of the hymn with chapter 15 of the Gospel of John. It is a beautifully composed hymn with lovely music and lyrics wonderfully vocalized as well. Obai sadathana mithuruthumo is a modern sinhala catholic hymn by Shivantha Fernando.
